The Kia EV6 has been crowned 2022 Car of the Year!

All-electric high-tech crossover secures one of the world’s most prestigious automotive awards
Kia EV6 beats fierce competition – Renault Mégane E-Tech, Hyundai IONIQ 5, Peugeot 308, Škoda Enyaq iV, Ford Mustang Mach-E and Cupra Born – to take the title
EV6 has a winning combination of a long-distance real-world driving range with ultra-fast charging technology
Developed on a dedicated electric vehicle architecture, EV6 can travel up to 328 miles on a single charge; taking just 18 minutes to charge the advanced battery from 10 to 80 per?cent
The Kia EV6 has been named the 2022 ‘Car of the Year’ at the prestigious Car of the Year (COTY) awards, marking the first time in history the award has been won by a Korean car manufacturer.
The innovative all-electric crossover, which is available from £40,945 from Speedwell Kia, was voted the overall winner by a 59-strong jury of highly respected motoring journalists from 22 European countries.
The Kia EV6 was initially pitted against sixty other cars that launched during 2021. In November, the COTY jury whittled this number down to a seven-strong shortlist, six of which were electric vehicles (EVs), indicating the growing importance of electric vehicles to consumers.
The Kia EV6 received a total of 279 points to claim victory and be crowned 2022 Car of the Year. It was followed by the Renault Mégane E-Tech (265 points), Hyundai IONIQ 5 (261 points), Peugeot 308 (191 points), Škoda Enyaq iV (185 points), Ford Mustang Mach-E (150 points) and Cupra Born (144 points).
Frank Janssen, President of the Car of the Year Jury, said: “It's a nice surprise to see the Kia EV6 receive this award. It was about time that the brand and the group were rewarded, as they have worked so hard on this car. Kia's pace of progress is really impressive.”
The 2022 Car of the Year award is the latest in a growing number of awards won by the EV6 since its introduction last year. Other titles recently claimed include: 2022 Irish Car of the Year; 2022 What Car? ‘Car of the Year’; ‘Crossover of the Year’ at the TopGear.com 2021 awards; ‘Premium’ winner in the German Car of the Year 2022 awards; and joint winner of the inaugural ‘Best Cars of the Year’ 2021/2022 awards.
The EV6 is Kia’s first dedicated electric car, and shows the exciting potential of the company’s new Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). The EV6 is available with rear- or all-wheel drive and a 77.4kWh battery and ultra-fast 800V charging as standard across a choice of three model grades: ‘Air’, ‘GT-Line’ and ‘GT-Line S’. Pricing starts from £40,945, with a WLTP-rated driving range of up to 328 miles. All Kia models come with a standard seven-year/100,000 mile warranty.
